“I trust the innate knowledge of the birthing person to bring life into this world. My role as your doula is to encourage you trust and believe in yourself, your decisions and inner strength as much as I do.”

It all started with my aunt sharing her birth story when I was 15. She had a home birth and paid for a midwife out of pocket (this was long before midwives were covered under AHS) and was explaining why she felt the need to go to such lengths to birth on her terms. I was shocked as I listened while she spoke of feelings of powerlessness and being ignored. Even at 15, I knew that this was absolutely backwards. The person doing the birthing should be the one in charge. From that moment I developed a passion for birth and empowering birthing people to be active participants in the pregnancies, labours and births.

As I began to work with families, I quickly learned that the need for support doesn’t end when the baby is born. Living in a remote community where most people don’t have family close by leaves a large majority of new or growing families without much needed support during the postpartum period. This led to my entry into the postpartum doula field.

The fundamental principle with which I approach this work is that this is YOUR birth. It’s all about you. My goal that you feel confident, empowered and supported as you navigate pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

“Birth is a rite of passage for women. Their journey should be honoured, their rights should be fiercely protected, and their stories should be shared.”
